Lewis, rector of St. John's Episcopal Church in Bridgeport, Connecticut , and father of Edward Gardner Lewis, laid the corner stone for the Stone Memorial Chapel that was being built just northwest of the Woman's Magazine Building in University Heights #1. The Rt. Rev. Daniel S. Tuttle, Bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Missouri gave the address. Only the foundation was completed before the work was abandoned.
