Francis, former governor of Missouri and president of the Louisiana Purchase Exposition, laid the cornerstone for the new Lewis Publishing Company headquarters on Delmar Boulevard in St. Louis County. In this photograph workmen are lowering the cornerstone into place while Governor Francis watches. At the far left is a model of the building. Standing next to the model are Major H. L. Kramer, a vice president of Lewis Publishing Company, and Mabel Lewis. Edward Gardner Lewis is bending over, just to the left of the top of the stairs.
