Description | Edward Gardner Lewis founded the People's United States Bank in 1904 to provide banking by mail services to his magazine subscribers. This nickel and copper plated model of the planned bank building was offered for children to used in learning to save. When the People's United States Bank was closed and thrown into receivership, Lewis sold these little savings banks for $1.50 through his magazines, under headlines like "Lest We Forget.!" |
